Career Technical Education

CYBERSEC 1, Computing and Technologies 1, is the first course of the Cyber Security Career Pathway. This course prepares students for a career in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), such as help desk, computer repair, IT specialist, network administrator and technical support with a focus on cyber security. The course includes a series of technical subjects that provide hands-on knowledge and skills in computer hardware, operating systems, networking and security concepts. Students will disassemble, assemble, install and configure computer components. This course is also designed to help students prepare for multiple industry certification exams.

CYBERSEC 2, Network Security, builds on students existing knowledge and experience with computing operating systems and networks to develop networking career skills. Students will gain an understanding of network design and communications methods and how cloud computing and virtualization components are configured. Students will learn the tools, methods and techniques used in managing a network, how to configure a local and wide area network, how to identify security incidents, vulnerabilities, security controls and how to secure the network. This course is also designed to help students prepare for multiple industry certification exams.

CYBERSEC 3, Cyber Security, emphasizes cybersecurity risk mitigation using the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and prepares students for the CompTIA Security+ exam. This course is the next step in preparing students for a career in the field of Cyber Security, such as a Security Specialist, Security Officer and Cyber Security Analyst. This class covers the methodologies behind cyber-attacks and the various types of attack techniques. Students will participate in lab exercises that help them identify, define and evaluate potential threats and vulnerabilities so that they can apply the correct security measures. This course is also designed to help students prepare for multiple industry certification exams.

CYBERSEC 4, Threat Analysis, covers the fundamental principles of using Linux tools and analytics to identify cyber threats and protect digital assets. Students can increase their cybersecurity skills by learning how to apply ethical hacking practices to defend against nefarious activity. This course prepares students the Cybersecurity Analyst+ exam, providing an industry recognized certification in high demand across industry sectors. Students exiting the program will understand ethical hacking practices, incident response team roles, policies and procedures for reporting on security architecture. This course is also designed to help students prepare for multiple industry certification exams.
