ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

Excelsior Charter Schools offers flexible learning options for students in grades 7–12 that are designed to meet students where they are and support where they want to go.

Students can choose from a classroom-based learning program or a full-time supported independent study program, both of which combine live instruction, independent learning, and personalized support.

Our program includes:

  • On-campus classes
  • Live virtual classes
  • Independent study

These options give students a balance of structure, flexibility, and support while staying connected to a school community.

Our full-time supported independent study program is designed for students who learn best from home. It combines live virtual classes with independent study, while still providing regular teacher support and access to all required coursework.

No matter the program, Excelsior focuses on helping students stay engaged, build confidence, and prepare for life after high school — whether that means college, career, or another pathway of their choice.

STUDENT-FOCUSED

At Excelsior, school is built around you.

Every student receives personalized support based on how they learn best. Depending on the program, students regularly meet with a caring, credentialed adult who helps them stay on track, set goals, and plan for the future.

  • Students in classroom-based programs meet with their school Counselor at least twice each year to review progress and future goals.
  • Students in non-classroom-based programs meet with an Educational Advisor (a credentialed teacher) every four weeks to check in on academics, goals, and college and career readiness.

All students use Canvas, our online learning platform, to access classes, assignments, and learning resources. Canvas helps students stay organized, track their progress, and communicate with teachers across all subjects and grade levels.

Excelsior teachers design lessons to be engaging, accessible, and challenging — making sure every student has the opportunity to succeed, no matter their background or learning style.

Beyond academics, we help students build real-world skills like:

  • Responsibility
  • Communication
  • Time management
  • Collaboration
  • Self-advocacy

Our goal is simple: Together, we prepare students to be successful adults.

ALL STUDENTS CAN ACHIEVE!

At Excelsior we believe that all students can achieve. Dr. David Berliner, author of “The Manufactured Crisis”, states that “When children have strong visions for their futures, they achieve more; hope is a major predictor of learning.” We believe that education is an investment in the future. Failing to plan for that future is planning to fail. The same is true for each and every student. Just “getting a diploma” isn’t good enough, they need to have a plan (and a backup!) for their future and they need the skills to achieve it. That’s our focus and our Vision, Mission and Values consists of one statement:

“TOGETHER, WE ARE PREPARING STUDENTS TO BE SUCCESSFUL ADULTS”
